Young hauliers' section plan by RHA
PLANS to set up a young executive section have been announced by the Road Haulage Association in an effort to introduce new blood and ensure that companies are less likely to leave the RHA.
The new section will cater for executives, managers and management trainees between 18 and 35 employed by RHA members and students attending full-time courses in transport management who will also be eligible for associate membership of the new section.
The idea for the new section has come from RHA commercial officer Mr R. J. Mullarkey and it has been well received by the Association's national council.
Objects of the new division would be to provide a means for the younger members to become familiar with the organisation and methods of the RHA and to allow them to meet to discuss technical and other matters to do with road haulage.
There will be opportunity to focus members' opinions and to see that they went to the right RHA body for consideration, and to help improve the efficiency of the Association.
The new section would be organised in groups over the country, not necessarily corresponding with the present RHA areas and it is suggested that it be modelled on other similar groups like the Young Farmers.
Each group would be run by an executive committee with the chairman, vice-chairman and secretary doing the administrative work. There would also be a national committee of group chairmen to monitor the activities of the section.
The groups will have to be self-financing and there would be an annual subscription of around £5 for full members and £3 for associate members.
This is the second time that the young executive branch idea has been suggested but it has never come to fruition. The original idea came from Mr P. H. Turner, RHA chairman 1966-68.
