k The RTITB has established a system of job descriptions for drivers and made recomiendations to employers on the procedure to adopted when interviewing new drivers.

The job description which the Board recomlends is as follows: The driver must drive oods vehicles in a safe, lawful and efficient ianner to at least the standard laid down by DoE in all weathers and in all traffic condions. He must be capable of carrying out, ssisting in, or supervising the loading and unmding of his vehicle: of securing and protectig the load by appropriate means to ensure afe transit and of completing the necessary ocumentation. He must carry out checks to risure the vehicle is fit for the road, and be apable of recognizing and reporting vehicle tuffs. He must change wheels if this is necesary and be able to deal with a variety of goods, le must, where necessary, couple or uncouple ractive unit and trailer combinations, attach

• r. detach demountable bodies, operate tipping ear or other power discharge equipment, 'lower operated tail-lifts, vehicle-mounted ranes, vehicle-mounted winches, and on lowDaders dismantle knock-out axles.

Work schedules must be followed and reions made to the management if he encounars undue delay or deviation. He must select uitable routes where required bearing in mind veight, height and width restrictions. He must eport accidents or other incidents to managenent in accordance with company procedures. le must maintain customer relations.

A skilled driver should have sufficient abiliy to carry out all the above duties without upervision. He must be fully conversant with II the types of vehicle he may be called upon o drive and with the company customer's equirements. He must have sufficient initiative ind knowledge to make necessary changes if chedules cannot be exactly followed due to tutside circumstances.
