A NEW TYPE of flexible tubing is being produced by Uni-Tubes Ltd. for use in vehicle exhaust systems. Called Kopex tubing, it is claimed to retain its initial flexibility, even after being subjected to the severe treatment meted out by the heat, vibration, and continual expansion and contraction of a vehicle exhaust system. •

The outer layer of the tube, which is subjected to the corrosive effect's of the atmosphere--and on a vehicle is continually soaked with water, dirt and salt off the roads—is made of zincplated steel, phosphor-bronze and stainless steel. The inclusion of a flexible portion of pipe in an exhaust system serving a power-unit that is flexibly-mounted in the chassis, considerably reduces the incidences Of damaged silencers and securing brackets.

Made by Uni-Tubes Ltd., 197 Knightsbridge, London S.W.7.

For Sealing Pipes APRODUCT called Elexment has been developed by Industrial Engineering Ltd to ensure a perfect seal when pipes arc joined together. This is'a permanent plastics jointing compound which, it is claimed, will give permanent leak-proof joints when used with pipes or tubes. The product, which in;corporates high-quality asbestos fibres, has a base of durable oils and finely ground pigments which ensure permanent moistness. When .a. join is made it fills the pipe threads and expands and contracts" with temperature changes—so eliminating gaps thrtiugh which liquids under • pressure Might pass. Flesment, which is green in colour, can be applied with an ordinary paint brush.

Since Flexment lubricates the joint, disconnecting pipe joints becomes a simple matter.

?', has been added to the series of Motor Manuals published by Chapman and Hall Ltd. In this the author, Arthur W. Judge, discusses small diesels—ranging from 310 60 b.h.p.—suitable for automotive, marine and stationary application.

In particular, the section dealing with the many different fuel-injection systems and the ancillary equipment that is used with them, and the chapter on engine components and electrical units, are extremely informative.
