• Tipper drivers have been warned to beware of potentially deadly overhead electricity power lines when making rural deliveries.

In the past year, four tipper drivers and two drivers of crane-mounted trucks have died after touching the outside of their vehicles after they came into contact with cables.

The fatalities included two tipper men who were killed on Norfolk farms.

Both drove into power lines when their tipper bodies were elevated and died after climbing out and touching the side of the truck.

As long as drivers stay in the cab they are safe, even if their vehicle is touching a cable, says John Curran, safety manager at Eastern Electricity, because the truck's tyres prevent an electrical circuit being completed.

The mistake many make is to jump out and then touch
