backsliding

• A device which is claimed to prevent trucks from rolling backwards on hills is being launched by Rotalok of Ilford, Essex. Two models will be available, one for four to 20tonners and the other for 17 to 38-tonners.

The system's ratchet and pulley wheels attach to the drive shaft at the rear axle. When the vehicle is moving forward, the pulley wheel drives a free-wheel clutch assembly via a toothed belt.

If the vehicle stops on an incline, the free wheel clutch engages a pawl with the ratchet wheel, through a coupling. The pawl is prevented from engaging the ratchet in a forward motion by springs.

The cost of the unit is expected to be around 2.800 for the smaller model.

Contact Rotalok on 081-514 6350 or 081-599 9993. range now comprises the 11100 and T1400 normal and high-roof vans; the short wheelbase high-roof model has been dropped.

The side sliding door, announced last autumn, is now available on all Trafic models as a no-cost option to the hinged door. Prices for the Prima start at 27,400 (ex-VAT) for petrol models and ,C8,400 (exVAT) for diesel.
