Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE FUTURE OF the vehicle crime intelligence service AVCIS will be decided by the most senior decisionmaking body in the police force in July.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) says the subject was raised at a meeting at the end of last month, but that no decision was reached. “It has now been referred to the chief constable’s council,” says an ACPO spokeswoman.

Detective chief inspector Mark Hooper says he would not be surprised if “vehicleenabled crime” is included in the scope of the new National Crime Agency, due to be launched next year.

However, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) remains unsure. RHA crime manager Chrys Rampley is meeting with Nottinghamshire police next week to discuss its decision to establish a freight crime division following the closure of Truckpol at the end of March.

• The time it takes to reopen roads in the aftermath of an accident could be cut in Essex, as the police force takes delivery of a 3D laser scanner designed to speed up crash investigations.
