• The PSV Operator's Licence held by Cyril, Roy and Ivy Saxton, of Heanor, Derbyshire, has been cut from six vehicles to five, and renewed for only 12 months following a number of annual test failures.

At a Nottingham public inquiry, Eastern Traffic Commissioner Brigadier Compton Boyd heard that on 5 March a Saxton vehicle had failed its annual test for nine items, many of which were of long standing.

Roy Saxton said the company had entered a contract with a commercial vehicle repair firm run by his brother to inspect and repair the vehicles on a monthly basis. Those inspections would be in addition to the ones the company carried out. This system had been proved to work, as a vehicle presented for annual test the previous week had passed first time. One problem had been the age of the vehicles, and the company had cut the fleet down to four and surrendered a contract.
