Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An Andover lorry driver overturned his truck on a motorway while he was looking down at a map.

Neil Whitcher lost control of his New Ford Cargo on the M3 near Winchester, Hants, mounting a traffic island and demolishing a crash barrier before overturning, Winchester magistrates heard.

Whitcher, of Galahad Close, Andover, said his co-driver had been checking on their route and had distracted him. "I looked down at the map, looked up and then the corner was there. It was too late for me to do anything about it," he said.

The vehicle was extensively damaged and his passenger injured.

Following the accident, Whitcher, 26, had been dismissed by his employer after the incident, but was now working as a driver for BRS, said David Melville-Walker, defending.

Whitcher admitted driving without due care and attention and was fined 250 with 210 costs and had his licence endorsed with seven penalty points.
