• Daf has squeezed extra power from its long-serving 11.6-litre charge-cooled engine used in the 95 Series tractive unit to make it more attractive to international operators.
The company has modified the combustion chamber in the six-cylinder engine, replacing the Daf toroidal shape with a 1200 cone. The two most powerful engines are now fitted with Bosch's new P1700 injection pump which increases injection pressure by 30%.
Daf has also changed the angle of the injectors, flywheel, engine mountings, gaskets and fitted glow plugs.
Top of the 95 Series range will be the new 95.400 which replaces the 285kW (383hp) 95.380. The new 95.400 uses the WS 295 engine which produces 298kW (401hp) at 2,000rpm and a maximum torque of 1,640Nm (1,2101bft) at 1,300rpm. Leyland Daf has yet to set a date for the introduction of the 95.400 although a UK debut at the Motor Show in September is possible.
The company has also introduced the 95.360, powered by the new WS 268 engine which produces 271kW (364hp) at 2,000rpm and a maximum torque of 1,500Nm (1,1061bft) at 1,300rpm. The 95.360 replaces the 262kW (352hp) 95.350.
Daf is also upgrading the 95.310 by fitting the new WS 242 engine. The 95.330's engine produces 246kW (329hp) Above: Daf s new top-of-therange tractive unit is the 95.400 which produces 298k1 V, and replaces the 95.380. It is expected to be launched in the UK this autumn.
Below: The 95.400 is powered by the WS 295 engine which develops around 7% more torque than its predecessor. at 2,000rpm compared with 228kW (306hp) in the 95.310. Maximum torque in the new unit is 1,350Nm (996Ibft) at 1,30Orpm.
Daf has paid particular attention to emissions from the new engines, and claims the 95.360 and 95.330 have maximum Nitrous Oxide (N0x) emissions 30% below current European limits.
All three models are insulated to reduce drive-by noise levels to 84 dB(A), and an optional package is available which further reduces noise to 79 dB(A).
The changes to the 95 Series tractors have coincided with minor alterations to the cab, including a revised trim, and modifications to the bumper.
