• MAN's association with Volkswagen will continue beyond the present arrangement, due to end in 1987, but there will be a change in manufacturing responsibility.
The present agreement calls for MAN to supply the engine, chassis and front axle, while Volkswagen provides the gearbox, drive axle and its LT cab for the MT range sold at between 6.5 to It) tonnes GVW in the UK.
MAN is expected to extend the range up to 12 tonnes for the mainland West European market, which takes 80% of production, but it is unlikely to be made available in Britain.
Overall sales resulting from this co-operative design have been disappointing with expectations of only 4,000 to be produced this year, less than half of the original predictions of 11,000 units when it was launched in 1979.
Assembly has been moved to MAN's Saltzgitter bus plant near Hanover.
