EUROPEAN Transport Ministers have agreed to another increase in multilateral quota permits from January next year, but British demands for automatic annual increases have met with German opposition.
At a meeting in Bonn last month, they agreed to increase the total from 458 to 560.
Britain's allocation will rise from 24 to 30, but Transport Minister Norman Fowler's proposal that there should be an automatic annual increase for the next five years fell on deaf German ears.
