To those involved in the British transport industry, the problems of the last decade have made the economical operation of trucks a much harder goal to achieve. An era of high inflation, soaring fuel costs and stringent safety regulations has meant many of yesterday's trucks are simply
unable to cope with tomorrow's transport problems.
All these reasons (and more) make the Bedford TL one of the most significant trucks ever made. Feature by feature, Bedford's engineers designed the TL to be the truck with everything right.
Developed over 5 years, the TL series is a comprehensive range of vehicles designed to deal with the difficult priorities of the 1980s.
Priorities that will make the TL the essential choice in middleweight trucks. PRIORITY 1: Making your initial investment yield more. Statistics show that the long term costs of running a truck can be 10 times that of the initial investment. One major cost is service-an expense the Bedford TL was designed to minimise. The cab is counterbalanced and tilts 500 in under 30 seconds to expose the entire front end. That makes everything easy to get at. Routine service
doesn't require the cab to be tilted. So water and other fluid levels can easily be checked through the side valances. Yet surprisingly, you don't have to pay a premium for engineering of this quality. The price of the TL is keenly competitive with the older trucks other
manufacturers offer. PRIORITY 2: A working environment that encourages higher productivity. The cab of the TL actually helps the driver to be more productive. For example, the seat position is fully adjustable to fit big and small drivers. The vast window area offers superb, all-round vision while the high roof line gives the best headroom and upward vision in its class. This and the generous shelf area behind the driver all contribute to the spacious feel of the cab.
The TLS fingertip controIs,"at-aglance" instruments and extra storage space are the kinds of ings a driver appreciates. In addition, the anti-burst doors and universally jointed steering column are just some of the safety features that make the all-steel TL cab the kind of place a driver can feel more comfortable and secure. PRIORITY 3: The exact truck to fit a specific need. The TL range is some 35 trucks strong. With a wide choice of wheel bases and GVVVs extending from 5,7 to
16,3 tonnes (GCWs up to 19,3 tonnes, GTWs up to 24,4 tonnes), you won't waste money
operating more of a truck than you actually need. And the choice of both diesel (including the new 8,2 Blue Series) and petrol engines means you'll never have to compromise between the right power and the best economy. PRIORITY 4: Easy handling for faster turnaround times. The Rs combination
of outstanding handling and famous Bedford driveability makes getting from A to B a lot easier.
Our low step entry and cross cob facility allows quicker operator exit and entry in city traffic.
Kerb weights have been kept down to keep vital payload capacity high. The chassis height is low to make loading easier. And the TL's generous axle tolerances also mean increased loading versatility.
They all add up to a truck that helps a driver do more work in less time.
PRIORITY 5: Less workshop service for more service on the road. We built the TL with "high durability"features that make sure it spends less time in the shop and more time working for you on the road.
The flexible plastic pipework makes corrosion a problem for other trucks but not TL.
Our chassis engineering has been proved on more than 1 million Bedford middleweight trucks already in use.
Many of their proven components have been incorporated into the TL So you can be sure the new TL is going to offer the high standard of reliability operators have traditionally come to expect from a Bedford.
