Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE threat of further savage increases in fuel prices — as envisaged in a story on page 15 of this issue — gives even more relevance to the fuel economy seminar which Commercial Motor is sponsoring on June 27 in London. There are still a few places left at this event, which is being held at the Cafe Royal, Regent Street. Details and reservation forms can be obtained from: Conference Administrator, Fuel Economy Seminar, Business and Industrial Training Ltd, 161166 Fleet Street, London EC4 (te1: 01-353 5011).

Engineering and operational aspects of fuel saving will be dealt with in an opening session, detailing the characteristics of engines which make for good consumption, the factors to be considered when specifying new vehicles, the operating routines which can be applied to check fuel usage, and the ways in which the results can be monitored.

Further sessions will deal with engine and chassis maintenance for economy — looking particularly at the areas where maintenance neglect will cost heavily in fuel — and with the use of computer programs for cutting out waste mileage and reducing fleet strength.

Fuel-saving devices will be explained by makers and users of a variety of such components.

The programme has been approved by the RTITB for one day's training grant.
