Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN AN effort to solve the increasingly difficult problems of commuter travel into urban areas, Vehicle Systems Development Corporation, a research company from Upland, California, has developed an idea which it calls "Commuta-Trans." The system is based on the use of large articulated transporter trucks which would pick up small electric-powered commuter cars from strategically located points in the suburbs and carry them into the city centres.

Unlike rail and guideway proposals the system would use existing freeways and not be tied to high cost, fixed rights of way. Because the electric commuter cars would need only a limited range, VSD claims that they could be fitted with present-day storage batteries which would provide adequate performance.

With the system currently in the prototype development stage, discussions are being held with several of the major car builders, but no commitments have been announced yet.
