Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A WAGE increase of £2.25 a week, subsistence to be increased from £1.75 to £3 a night and unsocial hours payments stepped up from Sp to 121/2p an hour.

These are proposals sent to the Pay Board this week, following a meeting of the Road Haulage Wages Council last week.

The £2.25 is recommended as an increase on the basic rate for all weights of vehicles and all ages of driver.

The unsocial hours payment is proposed to be made for work done between 8 pm and 6am. Payment of the new rates, if the Board agrees, cannot in any case be made before October 28. This allows time for the statutory notification to be made and objections considered.

However, a further recommendation is that payments in accordance with the threshold agreement can be brought into effect immediately. The Wages Council has notified operators that the payment may now be made. Last month British Road Services companies implemented all of the increases now recommended by the Wages Council. The West Midlands branch of the Transport and General Workers' Union has submitted a claim to operators in the area for exactly the same award. The TGWU wants its claim to become effective from September 1, which is two months earlier than would be allowed under the terms of Phase Three.
