Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I have read Mr. L. Davies' letter (CM June 7), in which he asked for news of the 100-ton Scammell unit BLH21, formerly operated by Pickfords.

I would advise you that this motive unit now rests in the scrapyard of Rush Green Motors, Langley, near Hitchin. Its general condition is poor, the cab roof supports having rotted, allowing the roof to drop down over the bonnet. The mechanical condition, however, appears good and the vehicle should be capable of restoration if someone should be interested. The Pickfords livery is still visible, as is the registration number on the cab roof.

The vehicle is clearly visible through a wire mesh gateway adjacent to the road.

BRIAN L. VEELE, Hatfield, Herts.
