Whether or not a radio in the cab is a dangerous distraction or an aid to safer travel probably depends on the driver's personality traits. Obviously P. Willetts of Automotive Products, the Class E(1) and local championship winner at LDOY Coventry this year and last, has personality traits that fit him well to his job. An enthusiast if ever there was one, but seemingly imperturbable, Willetts has paid tribute to the value of BBC radio programmes; he was chatting with Paul Brockington at Coventry before starting the manoeuvring tests in the latest event.
In his view a radio promotes patience in wearisome traffic conditions, while the motoring news flashes frequently enable him to avoid road hazards by taking an alternative route. He paid £20 for his current plug-in type set and regards it as a very sound investment.
