Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The period immediately after World War I was a critical one for the development of powered road transport and by today's standards those early vehicles demanded exceptional resourcefulness from the engineers who had to keep them going. Just such a one is Stanley Pepler—Old Pep to his many friends, who retired last month as technical director of Keith and Boyle (1'ransport) Ltd. and chief engineer to the Keith and Boyle group. When he got back into civvies after serving with the REs he joined Pickfords, becoming assistant chief engineer. It was in the second post-war period, in 1947, that he went to KB.

Old Pep was one of those who recognized the need for professional education and training to be allied to the practical work of the road transport engineer. Well qualified himself, he was a strong supporter of the IRTE, of which he was a founder member, twice chairman of council and three times vice-president. His many friends will wish him well in his retirement— . though I hear he intends to keep in touch with the industry through transport engineering consultancy.
