Reclaiming moving parts is not a job that can conveniently be undertaken in every vehicle workshop because it entails the use either of considerable numbers of man hours or quite expensive machinery. And yet where reclamation can be carried out on a semiautomated basis, quite large savings can be made in the cost of replacement parts. The Imperial Engineering Co. Ltd. of 261 Hornsey Road, London, N7, specializes in the repair and reclaiming of all the heavier components which make up a commercial vehicle. With the closing down of the West London firm of Weldangrind. of Peterborough Road, Fulham, Imperial Engineering has taken over all that company's stocks of spares to carry on with the reconditioning of Scammell automatic coupling gear. Units passing through the reconditioning programme are built-up, bushed and machined back to the original dimensions of a new coupling and will serve equally as well as a new unit. The important thing is that the reconditioning cost is approximately two-thirds that of a new coupling and, more to the point, replacement couplings are instantly available. Every fleet engineer will find garage jacks in constant service needing periodical overhaul and here again Imperial offers a comprehensive service in the way of overhaul and repair. A weekly collection and delivery service adds to the attraction of the company's services and its engineers are always available to visit haulier's premises to discuss engineering problems and the means by which these can best be overcome.
