Company's Sales Increasing. Further Expansion Anticipated.

The sixth annual general meeting of The Young Accumulator Company (1929), Ltd., was held yesterday at the Company's Burlington Works, New Malden, Surrey.

Lt.-Col. L. P. Winby, A.M.I.C.E, (Chairman of the Company), who presided, said that the Company had continued its improvement, which had resulted in a net profit for the year of .,46,156. That profit had been obtained without their having had the benefit of their new extensions into hich they had only lately moved. The Chairman then dealt fully with the items in the balance-sheet, and in the course of so doing quoted a letter which the Company had received from the Rt. Hon. The Earl Howe, P.C., in which Earl Howe pa.id

• a striking tribute to the merits of the -Young Accumulator. Referring to the patents item which .appeared in the balance-sheet at ir, the Chairman said that the patents covered the process of manufacture of " PerSainte" and the Armoured Positive Plate, which had resulted in the introduction of the Super-Armoured Battery. That had now been adapted for car-starter and lighting batteries as well as for the heavier commercial vehicle and traction batteries for which it wa-s first designed. The success attending the launching of that exceptionally fine product was undoubted, and the general motoring public were now endorsing the fnvourable reception that it had had-with the leading engineers of the heavy transport industry throughout the country. They could say with confidence that in that Super-Armoured Battery they had the finest car-starting and lighting battery in the world.

Although some use was made of a portion of the new building, no alteration was able to be carried out in the older portion, the reorganization of which was one of the major reasons for the extensions. Those had now been practically completed, and they looked forward to substantial economics in working as a result, and also to the increased output made possible by that reorganization and the new extensions.

The introduction of the Super-Armoured Battery had brought them prominently into the electric traction field. The spread of the grid, with the consequent expansion of facilities for the nightly charging of the batteries for those vehicles, had focused the attention of those catering for local deliveries of commodities necessitating frequent stops upon the advantages and economies of the electric truck, and their Company was increasing its position in that market in which the battery was relatively a far more important part than it was in a petrol-driven vehicle. The batteries in the case of large vehicles ran into substantial sums, and would be n marked addition to the Corn, pany's turnover.

Their Company was also increasing its sales for marine work, having had several notable successes with its use on recordbreaking speedboats, whilst demands were increasing for aviation purposes. They were obtaining a continuing and increasing share of the business of the principal transport concerns of the country, and their reputation as makers of the finest lead-acid batteries for all forms of traction stood very high indeed.

Confidence in their Company's products was firmly established, the improvement noted last year had been maintained, and the Directors had every justification in .looking forward to the further progress and 'expansion of the Company's activities, The report and accounts were unanimously adopted.
