Hull Transport Committee has appointed Mr. G. A. Cherry, of Rotherham, as bus mainteiaance engineer.
Major J. B. Elliott, chairman of the Motor Hirers and Coach Services Association, has now returned to this country from Ceylon.
Mr. James Turner, Broxburn traffic manager of the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., has been promoted to manage the Airdrie depot, where he will have 100 buses under his control. • Mr. Charles Hodgson, of St. Austell, well known as a staunch supporter of the Road Haulage Association, has been elected vice-chairman of the Cornwall Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Traders Associations.
Mr. V. W. Pilkington, manager of the engineering department of Leyland Motors, Ltd., who has been in South Africa on account of his health, is expected to return to the company's headquarters at an early date.
We learn that Mr. F. J. Lawlor, A.M.I.M.E., who, for the past three years, has been manager of, the Newcastle service depot of ArmstrongSaurer Commercial Vehicles; Ltd., terminates his engagement with the company at the end of this month.
Mr. John Barnard, general manager of Bolton Transport Department, was, last week, the recipient of the King's Silver Jubilee medal. Mr. Barnard is a member of the National Council for the Tramways Industry, is on the executive of the Council of the. Municipal Tramways and Transport Association, and is secretary of the Lancashire andCheshire Transport Association, Extending the C.M.U.A.'s Influence.
Mr. S. Macadam, president-elect of the Commercial Motor Users Association, occupied the chair at the recent annual meeting of the West Midland division of the Association. In the course of a speech he said that the Association had been in existence for 31 years, but be thought its influence would be strengthened if the smaller operators in the industry would join. Mr. John Howell, honorary treasurer to the division, was re-elected, Shipping Guide for Hauliers.
