Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH STRONG family links to Foden, like many others I was saddened by the recent announcement.Maybe the old firm has finally had its day -or has it?

Mr Piggot and his colleagues saved Foden from sure oblivion and, to their credit, have persevered for many years during which time there have been occasions when closure would not have been a surprise; not least when Paccar acquired Daf and later when production ceased at Elworth.

Following the move to Leyland, while maintaining a different identity to Daf, the products have rapidly improved and suddenly appeal to a much wider customer base, appearing in fleets where previously they would not have been considered.

The Caterpillar C13 Accert engine, if marketed correctly, could at long last be this manufacturer's first chance to appeal to UK fleet operators anxious to avoid SCR for Euro-4: something I understand the new Daf engine can't achieve.

Some excellent long standing dealers like The Hardstaff Group, Pelican Engineering and others. all willing to put their money where their mouths are, have been joined by various Daf dealers, giving Foden the best UK coverage they have ever had and also access to Daf Aid systems.

If production space is the true problem then bring Foden back to the mothballed Elvvorth plant and to aid viability bring any lower volume Daf models from Leyland and Eindhoven with it, so freeing up space at both the major plants.

Don't give up now Mr Piggot. You might have finally got the chance to get it together at Foden. M Davies Waterlooville, Hants
