• Nearly a tenth of one of the largest own-account fleets in the UK will go out to a third-party operator from next month. Allied Bakeries' inter-company distribution, defined as any movement of products from one bakery to another for onward trunking to the end customer, will be managed by TNT.
Up to 170 vehicles working from 26 sites around the country will transfer to TNT from August. The bakery says it will make significart cost savings with the move as "TNT has more efficient distribution technique?. A spokesman for Allied says radial distribution, or trunking from bakeries to the end customer, and wholesale journeys which salesmen carry out, will continue to be handled by in-house staff.
