• Trailer rental company Tiphook will be market leader in Europe by April next year, vows executive chairman Robert Montague. Its annual results, out last week, show a rise in pre-tax profits from 23.9 million to 210 million in the year to 30 April.
Montague says it has increased the size of its trailer fleet from 4,500 to 8,000, and present orders worth 00 million will take the fleet to over 11,500. This would mean that Tiphook would overtake the current European market leader, TIP, which, he says, has a fleet of around 10,000.
Tiphook's turnover grew by 72% to 267.7 million. Pre-tax profit on trailer rental was 23.2 million on a turnover of 226 million compared with 21.6 million on 213 million last year.
Montague says that Tiphook's fleet is the "newest in Europe". The company won a Queen's Award for Export this year — its second in three years. The rental firm is now operating from 41 depots in seven European countries, and in March bought German trailer rental company Kassbohrer Fahrzeug-Mietservice.
He hints that the company is "looking seriously at France and Italy" — two major markets in which it is not represented. Tiphook will also enlarge its operations in Holland. Belgium, Denmark and Spain.
