THE OPENING of the biggest ever Scottish Show will take place on Friday, November 15, 1985 in the new Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow.

The closing date for the Show — the 55th to be staged in Scotland — will be either Saturday 23 or Sunday, November 24. A final decision on this will be made in the autumn of this year by the Show's organisers, the Scottish Motor Trade Associaton.

The five main halls of the Scottish Exhibition Centre, with a total display area of 20,000 sq metres, will be fully occupied by the 1985 Scottish Motor Show. This is double the size of previous Shows held in Glasgow's Kelvin Hall.

In addition to increased space for exhibitors, consideration is being given to new categories of exhibits and added attractions for the public. "These, together with easy access by public transport to the new Centre and its massive car parking area with a capacity for 3,750 cars plus coaches, are expected to draw record-breaking attendances," says SMTA.

The Scottish Exhibition Centre, which will be completed by early autumn next year, will be the third largest of its kind in the UK after the NEC and Earls Court/Olympia.

Charlie Gallacher, chief executive of the SMTA, said: "There is no doubt that, in its new venue, the Scottish Motor Show will be a much more important and more exciting shop-window for both manufacturers and dealers."
