Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I have for years cherished the belief that drivers behave better on holiday than they do normally. Recent experience on narrow, steep, winding roads in the West Country has changed my mind.

In days gone by, the courtesy of reversing to allow another driver to pass was generally acknowledged, but not now. When I was on Exmoor the other week, I doubt whether more than one in three car drivers even lifted a little finger in

thanks when I reversed up 1 in 5 or climbed a bank to make room for them. Their ignorance was equalled only by their incompetence.

Coach and lorry drivers, I am happy to say, were generally courteous as well as capable.
