FIVE road haulage firms are "subject to discretionary action" — on the Government's blacklist for breaking the pay guidelines —said Joel Barnett, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, in the Commons last week.

Trainers visit Stornoway

MEMBERS and officials of the RTITB have spent two days on a visit to the Island of Lewis. They met garage proprietors and road hauliers and discussed the proposed motor vehicle integrated course to start next month at Lews Castle Technical College, Stornoway.

Revenue

REVENUE from taxation on goods vehicles over 31/2 tons gross weight this financial year is expected to exceed allocated public expenditure on roads and policing by about E100 per vehicle Transport Minister William Rodgers told the Commons.

Transit-based ambulances

ESSEX County Council has placed a £40,000 order with a Rochdale firm for social service ambulances.
