Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ing now being produced by Middlesex Prefabricated Buildings, Ltd., of Hounslow, Middlesex, has an outer covering of fin. Douglas Fir plywood instead of the traditional weatherboard or shiplap cladding.

Called the Middlesex 58-2 Range, the external quality, resin-bonded plywood cladding which is used, will eliminate the possibility of draughts and leakage caused by shrinkage or knot-holes becoming displaced. In addition, it is claimed that in the event of damage occurring to the outer skin, rapid repairs can be effected cheaply by an " invisible mending" process developed by the designers.

The SB-2 has a 15° pitch roof covered with 2-ply bituminous felt. Standard spans are 20 ft., 25 ft. and 30 ft., with lengths varying from 40 ft. to 80 ft. in 10-ft. increments.

Cost varies from £260 for a 40-ft. x 20-ft. building without floor, to £877 for an 80-ft. x 30-ft. building complete with floor.

B.S. for Bores THE object of a new British Standard —B.S. 3386: 1961—is to establish a range of cylinder bore sizes for new designs of internal combustion engines which will facilitate a reduction in the number of variants of cylinder liners and piston rings.

Requirements are specified for cylinder bore sizes from 1-in. to 12-in, diameter for 2and 4-stroke petrol and compression ignition engines. These requirements include nominal bore sizes, tolerances and increments of oversizes, which are set out in four tables.

Copies of the Standard may be obtained from the British Standards Institution, Sales Branch, 2 Park Street. London, W.1, price 4s. each.

Detergent Dispenser A"proprietary liquid detergent can be used in the EasObal RinsOmatic wall-mounted mixer/dispenser for vehicle and floor washing, now available from Booth Patents, Ltd., Much Park Street, Coventry.

Capacity of the detergent reservoir is 3 pints, and the actual mixing of the detergent and water takes place at the outlet control valve. The supply of detergent can be cut off completely, so that clean water can be obtained for rinsing down.

Trade price of the unit is £15.

Heavy Duty Pulley Blocks ANEW range of "Colossus" triple geared pulley blocks and trolleys has been introduced by Anderston Clyde Engineers, Ltd., Irk Vale Works, Chadderton, Lancs. These are available in capacities from f ton up to 20 tons as standard and up to 60 tons to special order. Each block is subjected to thorough testing, and certificates are supplied in every case.

The applied effort is transmitted by planetary gears with double pinions that

rotate in an inner geared annulus, which is integral with the suspension frame. This provides stability, and "Colossus" pulleys are said to operate extremely smoothly because the load wheel is ballbearing mounted and the driving pinion shaft is mounted on self lubricating collars.

Purchasing Aid THE 1961 edition of the British Engineers' Association handbook has now been published.
