THE Minister of Transport revealed this week that 2,028 officials of his Department are authorized to enter private residential and landed property without having to obtain the permission of the owners or occupiers.

Replying to a Commons question from Mr. Stephen McAdden (Tory, Southend East), the Minister said that this total included 1,243 in the categories of Driving and Traffic Examiners and Clerks to Licensing Authorities and their staffs, who were restricted by administrative action from using the powers in question.
