Useful Work at a Meeting of the General Management Committee of the M.H.C.S.A. rillik. limitation of services under the Road Traffic Act and the difficulty of finding suitable parking accemmodation in London for motor coaches were diseassed at a recent meeting of the

general management committee of the Motor Hirers and Coach Services Association. In the absence of the chairman and vice-chairman, the chair was taken by Mr. A. L. Guilmant.

Mr. Tapper stated that he was concerned over the action of the Traffic Commissioners for the East Midland Area in imposing a condition on roadservice licences, prohibiting the picking up of passengers by vehicles operated by private companies within 440 yards of a terminus of a municipal-bus or tram route, or city boundary.

Mr. Tapper was informed that the condition had been attached to licences for routes at* Leicester and Northampton, and the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., was one of the concerns upon which the limitation was placed. The "Midland Red" Co. had, said Mr. Tapper, intimated its intention of appealing for the purpose of testing the decision arrived at by the Commissioners.

It was agreed that the Association should co-operate with the bus company and that it should communicate with the Traffic Commissioners concerned and with the Minister of Transport. It was further decided to make inquiries of the local associations in Northampton, in order to ascertain whether the condition had been attached to any licence granted to a member. On behalf of Miss Culverhouse, Mr. Jones dealt with the matter of parking coaches in London, mentioning that the difficulty was met with by the operator of contract carriages. It was said that on occasions, when parties had to be set down at restaurants for metfis, in

variably the most convenient parking place was not available for coaches. It was decided to write to the Commissioners of Police for the Metropolis and the City of London, and to the secre

tary of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, suggesting that a deputation from the Association should wait upon them for the purpose of discussing the situation, with a view to reaching some agreement that would be helpful to operators.

It was also decided that, for the convenience of provincial members in particular a luncheon should be held on the occasion of the annual general meeting of the body. An application from the SouthWestern Motor 'Coach Owners and Operators Association, of Caine, Wiltshire, for affiliation to the M.H.O.S.A. was accepted. The former organization's form of application showed a membership of 25, and it was expected that the strength would shortly be increased. Messrs. Windsorian Coaches, of ' Windsor, were elected members of the The following members, owing to various reasons of business, tendered their resignations :—E. A. Dyer, Croydon ; W. II.
