Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BY THE HAWK

II The RHA is taking to sponsorship in a big way. Leyland DAF support of the national conference has been followed by Renault support for the international group's meeting next March, in Caen.

Even so, the RHA has some way to go before catching up with SAV, the Flemish road haulage association. During the association's Trailer '87 show in Kortrijk, SAV had its annual banquet, attended by some 500 people. The aperitifs, each of the six courses, the three wines, the liquers and the cigars were all sponsored by different firms. So was the band and each act in the elaborate cabaret. In all, 15 firms contributed to what an expert witness tells me was an excellent evening.

• "Lorry drivers have special problems. As a car driver, you can help." No. It isn't a benevolent fund for bewildered and distracted truckers. Nor is a slogan for one of those "Give an old trucker a home" charities'.

In fact, some of you may already have seen this. It appears in a Department of Transport leaflet which is now enclosed with every vehicle licence reminder the DVLC sends out.

It is sponsoring an expedition to the Arctic to discover, among other things, what happens to the psychological outlook of "small groups of expedition members operating in isolation".

The joint services expedition, which will be led by a group of RAF officers, will sally bravely forth to Borup Fjord on Ellesmere Island in the spring to study the arctic hare and other fauna in the area, including wading birds.

Securicor chief executive Peter Bowie says: "The project may seem an unusual one for us to embrace but we believe it will be an exciting and innovative venture requiring enterprise, meticulous planning and operation in a relatively unexplored area.

"This appeals to us because all of these qualities we

endeavour to encourage in Securicor." Will Securicor now launch an express parcel service to Santa's grotto in Lapland? Expedition leader Flight Lieutenant Hankinson will be able to draw upon his experience as winner of the 1984 Rolex Award for Enterprise for his part in the expedition to Brabant Island in Antarctica. His 18-strong team will include a small number of civilian researchers. The Hawk will not be among them. . .
