It was stated that the business was started by his 20-year-old son, Alan Robert Brown, now serving in the Merchant Navy, and 45-year-old Miss Eileen Kirby. Miss Kirby also pleaded guilty to 12 charges of failing to have a lorry excise licence and with Mr Gordon

According to the prosecution, the offences came to light after an official had been called in from the DoE following trouble with union members employed by the firm. Mr Gordon Brown, who had been running depots at Terrington St Clement and in London, was stated to have been in poor health for some time and the 12 offences occurred during a period of complete breakdown when he had to be given hospital treatment.
