A. Fraser Menzies, 38, has been appointed director of distribution UK, Reckitt and Colman Ltd, in place of L. A. Carey, 64, who will be retiring in June. Until then Mr Carey will act in an advisory capacity, and will visit various Reckitt and Colman establishments in the UK and Ireland. Mr Fraser Menzies joined the company in March 1971. He was previously distribution manager for Lyons Groceries Ltd, where he set up a ,network of depots to store and deliver tea, coffee and groceries to warehouses and shops throughout Britain. He is a member of the distribution committee of the Food Manufacturers' Federation. Mr Carey joined J. and J. Colman Ltd in 1931. In 1938 he became manager of the transport department. and in 1945 group transport manager of Reckitt and Colman.

Ray Smith has left his post as director of sales for Pengco (Transport Systems) Ltd.

Aubrey Edwin Orchard-Lisle, 63, has been appointed a part-time member of the National Bus Company. Mr Orchard-Lisle is senior partner in the firm of Healey and Baker. property surveyors and valuers. Sidney A. Clayden, of Brentwood, Essex has been elected chairman of the council of the National Guild of Transport Managers for 1972. Mr Clayden, who is transport manager for Thomas Bates and Sons Ltd, of Harold Wood, was senior vice-chairman of the council in 1971 and has been secretary of the Ilford centre since it was formed in October 1969. Fred Edwards, of Joseph Scott and Son (Heaton) Ltd. Newcastle on Tyne, has been elected NGTM senior vice-chairman. and John Dempster, of SELNEC PTE. junior vicechairman. Colin Todd, Arrand and Son (Hauliers) Ltd, Scotter, Lines, has been reelected treasurer. Graham Simons and "Geordie" Elvin have been re-elected president and vice-president respectively.

Ronald Armstrong, 60, transport manager for Lytham St Annes Corporation Transport since 1954, has retired. Mr Armstrong was in municipal transport for 44 years, many of them at Morecambe.

Harold C. A. Cornwell, manager of the Orsett depot of ERF distributor W. J. Bo,yes and Son Ltd, has retired after 42 years' service with the company.

OBITUARIES We record with regret the deaths of Thomas Bamford, Arthur Harold Clarke and Sydney C. Grace.

Mr Bamford, 65, had been for 18 years manager of Doncaster Corporation Transport, retiring five months ago.

Mr Clarke, 53, of Swaffham, Norfolk, was a lorry driver who began his own haulier's business which now has nine vehicles.

Mr Grace, 44, was proprietor of C. Grace and Sons, of Deptford. For 11 years he served as secretary of the loTA (London centre).
