• Ribble Motor Services' application for a fares increase will be considered at a public inquiry on March 1. Director and general manager Mr W. Leese has sent a letter to 115 local authorities pointing out that the seven per cent increase which is to be made by bus companies throughout the country from early March next will cost Ribble £420,000 a year.
Mr Leese said he regretted having to ask for the withdrawal of off-peak discount fares, but they had failed in their purpose and could not be justified in the present circumstances of continued cost increases.
