• Proposals for a road haulage complex at the southern entrance to Penrith, originated by a former local haulier, will be the subject of a DoE public local inquiry at Penrith on February 2.

The inquiry is into the appeal of the administrators of the estate of the late Mr Gordon A. Stamper, against Cumberland county council's refusal of planning permission for the project. Sited at a point near the junction of A6 and A66, the disputed project is understood to include plans for driver accommodation, vehicle servicing and secure parking.

• A last-minute change of plan led to a delay in the screening of the BBC Blue Peter programme announced last week. A minor fire at the studio meant the LDoY feature could not be shown until yesterday.

• The inaugural meeting for the IoTA's new King's Lynn Centre will take place on January 20 at 8 pm at the Cozens Hotel, Blaekfriars St, King's Lynn, Norfolk.
