Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The introduction today of Boxer tractive units and Terrier tippers represents a signficant extension of the range of British Leyland Redline models currently offered.

The new Boxer tractive unit range comprises models for gross train weights of 16, 18, 19 and 20 tons. All are essentially derivatives of the Boxer rigid truck range. The 16-ton-gtw Boxers are available with either normal fifth-wheel or automatic coupling but the 18 and 20-ton-gtw Boxers are available with fifth-wheel only. The 19-ton model has auto coupling.

As with the rigid trucks, the 16-ton-gtw model uses the high-torque Leyland 310 six-cylinder diesel while the 18/19 and 20-ton versions have the Perkins 6.354.2 in-line diesel as used currently in the Boxer 14.25 and 16-ton-gvw rigids. The 16-ton-gtw tractive units have a five-speed synchromesh box and two-speed spiral bevel axle: the 18 /19-ton-gtw models have a five-speed box and single-speed axle.

Braking is the air-over-hydraulic system as used on the Terrier range and some Boxer rigid models. All models retain the G-range cab and have an option of the GX luxury version. The new tractive units have low coupling heights and the ' 16-ton-gtw version has 16in. diameter wheels as stan dard.

The Terrier tipper models have a common wheelbase of 113in. and are available at 6.5, 8.5 and 9.5 tons gvw.

Major specification features are similar to the current rigid vehicles. The Terrier TR 650 model when fitted with a lightweight body will come under 3 tons and thus eliminate the necessity for hgv-licensed drivers.
