NOW being supplied to Shell, Esso and Caltex in Malaysia are Harper Gilfillan Carrimore fuel tankers built at Kuala Lumpur using air-sprung Carrimore running gear exported from the UK.

Harper Gilfillan are making two sizes of tank semi-trailer, a 3,600 gal. single-axle model for a gross train weight of 18.5 tons and a 4,500 gal. tandem-axle version to operate at 24 tons g.t.w.--the first tankers of this size to be registered for main road work in Malaya.

The rubber-sprung, parallel-link suspension has Panhard rod location and the complete assemblies are mounted on steel sub-frames ready to bolt on to the tank structure. The complete single-axle assembly weighs about 19.5 cwt. and the tandem-axle type 36.5 cwt.; complete with low-profile tyres and steel mudguards. The hub ends of the tubular axles are of forged steel, stress relieved; the twin-line airpressure brakes are 16.5 in. by 7 in. and the double-convolution air springs are con

trolled by a pressure-regulating valve and two-stage direct-acting levelling valves.
