THE RELAUNCH of anti-truck crime initiative TruckPol has been delayed because initial plans didn't meet hauliers' needs.
Originally due to be operational by January, the launch has been put back to March after the Road Haulage Association (RHA), which is representing the industry in developing the initiative, raised concerns about the proposed way it would work. RHA security manager Chrys Rampley said the not-for-profit company in charge of developing the new initiative wanted to use a model that failed to take into account the needs of hauliers, loss adjusters or insurers.
She added: "The [proposal] was based on a retail model, but that won't work for everyone. We need to shape it around our needs and set up a working group to decide what transport operators want."
The original TruckPol was shut down in March 2012 after government funding was withdrawn.
