to return to the transport sector with the purchase of Boalloy.

CM EXCLUSIVE EDWARD STOBART, arguably the best-known man in the UK road haulage sector, has returned to the industry through the purchase of Boalloy, the Cheshirebased bodybuilder. Boalloy will he merged with Boalloy Fastruck, the rigid vehicle bodybuilder Stobart bought last year, to form Boalloy Fastruck Bodies.

The new company will continue to be based at Boalloy's Congleton headquarters. where as well as building the traditional range of bodies including the renowned Tautliner it will also produce a new range of horseboxes, with a number of other products in the pipeline.

Stobart had been in semiretirement since 2002 when he sold Eddie Stobart, the haulage company he took from a seven truck Cumbrian haulier to the multi-million-pound business it is today In an exclusive interview with CM (see p16), Stobart says he had originally signed up Boalloy to produce the new range of horseboxes, but when Boalloy went into receivership in October last year he took the opportunity to buy the company.

"We'd literally just delivered the first chassis for build when we got wind that something was going wrong with the company. When the administrators went in we started negotiations. I think we were the only realistic interested party," he says.

"Boa lloy is a renowned name in the industry. It's a company with huge potential and a strong workforce; already we're seeing things start to come to life," he adds.
