Carefully considered, this could be construed as a highly racial remark in the worst taste. Mr Bottomley apparently feels that a job with disgusting pay, lousy conditions and quite often virtually no home life, not to mention being the prey of every notebook-happy policeman, MoT Inspector and metermaid — is quite good enough for the ethnic minorities.

They are far too bright to fall into such a stupid trap and Mr Bottomley would do well to stick to kissing babies and leave the transport business to the people who presently operate it.
