Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The privatisation of National Bus Company operating subsidiaries — currently running at one a week — continues with a management buy-out at East Yorkshire Motor Services.

EYMS is the 18th NBC company to go private and the 16th to be acquired by its management. The buy-out team is led by managing director Alan Stephenson with commercial director Peter Shipp, financial director Godfrey Burley and four senior managers.

The company, which celebrates its diamond jubilee this year, runs more than 300 buses, minibuses and coaches in the Hull, Humberside and Bridlington areas. It has also taken over local services in Scarborough and Pickering from sister NBC company United Automobile. In addition to its local services activities East Yorkshire operates executive and holiday travel services with a fleet of luxury coaches and miniceaches.

All of East Yorkshire's 820 staff will be given the opportu nity to take part in a profitsharing scheme.

Transport Minister David Mitchell says the sale will allow EYMS to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by deregulation of local bus services.
