Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Vehicle Systems Engineering, the London-based air system manufacturer, has converted the first right-handdrive Renault R340 4x2 tractive unit to 6x2 configuration using its VSE/Turner 201 lifting tag-axle system.

It is the first of an order for eight placed by RT1 dealership and subsidiary Birmingham Trucks and is destined for continental use by West Midlands haulier Ware Transport.

The original 3.3m wheelbase has been reduced by 200nun which, with the chassis extension, gives it an outer axle spread of 4.3m.

When fitted with twin rear wheels on the tag axle the R340's kerb weight, minus fifth wheel, is increased by around 800kg to 7,715kg. The conversion adds £4,652 to its basic 242,360 retail price.

VSE's add-on axle gives Renault operators a wider operational choice to minimise the risk of axle overloading when running at 38-tonnes GCW.
