• Craven Tasker is to close its Lochgelly factory in Fife, Scotland from the end of this month, with the loss of 11 jobs.
The 0.6 hectare (1.5 acre) Lochgelly site was acquired in 1980 and commissioned by Craven Tasker in 1983 to build aluminium tipping semi-trailers and tipper bodies for rigids, and to handle overspill work from the company's main Scottish factory at Cumbernauld.
Norman Me[tors, Craven Tasker managing director, says that Lochgelly is being closed because developments at the company's other factories at Sheffield, Garstang, Woodville and Cumbernauld have made them better able to accommodate the work formerly done in Fife. He denies that any downturn in the market for aluminium tippers — or Craven Tasker's share of it — lies behind the plant's closure.
According to MeHors, Lochgelly's output accounted for only 2.5% of Craven Tasker's turnover.
