• Tankclean, the NEC's specialist road tanker cleaning division of Tankfreight, has won a long-ten commitment from the Dutch Wim Vos Group.

Wim Vos, which has its UK headquarters in Southampton, is one of the largest bulk tanker operators in Europe. Its fleet will use Tankclean's Purfleet, Greenwich and Southampton cleaning stations.

• Northern truck hire company Smith Self Drive has just taken delivery of its largest-ever vehicle order, for 32 Leyland Roadrunners 8.13s worth around £450,000.

The new vehicles are specified with the Leyland L302 engine built by Cummins, which produces 97kW (130bhp), driving through a Turner 1'5 290 five-speed synchromesh gearbox.

Dropside, tipper, box and refrigerated bodies are fitted to the Roadrunners, which will be based at Smith's depots in Doncaster, Leeds, Rotherham, Sheffield arid Whitehaven.

• Sally Line enjoyed a record year in its crossChannel ferry operations from Ramsgate to Dunkirk last year, with freight traffic up 19.5% to 38,234 units (from 31.974 in 1985), and coach traffic up 39.51% to 10,850 vehicles.
