I MUST TAKE the Hawk to task (CM, January 24) with regard to the Herts/Essex LDoY.
It was the Cambridge Centre of the National Guild of Transport Managers that revived the Herts/Essex regional heat (in 1975 with Eddy Barber)and we raised it from financial disaster through 1976/77. at J. Sainsbury's depot at Buntingford, and most successful they were.
In 1978 it was transferred to Dixon's at Stevenage which was also a great success.
The organising committee comprised mainly of transport managers who gave up a great deal of spare time and travelled mary miles to organise and run a s:Jccessful heat.
Due to the fact that several key co -nmittee members moved to other parts of the country, difficulW was encountered in finding pec ple with enough time availablE to enable us to run an event up to the high standards already set.
It must also be understood that aIer much searching, a suitable venue could not be found.
As David Sells knows only too well, on the day (June 14) the support of the Guild (Cambridge, Colchester and London centres) will be more than forthcoming.
