IN Uneconomical jobs may be ignored by breakdown operators this Christmas if the RAC does not meet demands for rate increases, warn the associations representing independent recovery operators.

Industry representatives met with the RAC on 28 November, but were not happy. The agents met yesterday (13 December) to discuss their next move. AVRO chairman, David Marks says: "It is in the RAC's interest to give us the new rates now otherwise they will not get the cover over Christmas."

The RAC says: "We won't be held to ransom by any of our suppliers. We will make alternative arrangements if any operators refuse our business, We are releasing new rates tomorrow (Friday) which will satisfy all our agents".
