• Following the sale of Tyne and Wear Omnibus Company, the remainder of the Trimdon companies in the North East are set to be sold to Caidaire North East.
Over 100 buses and nearly 300 staff are employed by the Trimdon Motor Services company at Trimdon Grange and at Teesside Motor Services at Stockton. Trimdon owner Bob Lewis plans to retire from mainland operation to concentrate on his Jersey interests — he owns Jersey Motor Transport.
Caldaire North East already owns United Automobile of Darlington, and intends to run the two new acquisitions as separate companies when the deal is completed. United Automobile itself will be split next year and the four subsidiaries will run alongside each other, with the elimination of "competitive mileage."
