Relocating the short (980mm) unit further forward eliminates protrusion to the rear of even the shorter S day cab, while improved weight distribution allows for a 10.2 tonne imposed load through the fifth wheel with the conventionally sprung 1733 model.
To address the problems of noise, vibration and harshness, Mercedes-Benz has invested in a re-engineered, betterbalanced crankshaft. By offsetting the crank throws by 30° equalised ignition has been achieved. Improved breathing, revised combustion-chamber geometry and high injection pressures combine to give a high output with comparatively clean emissions.
