• Former Steyr dealer Clarke Commercials of Leeds has taken a further 26 of the unsold Steyr trucks which remain in the UK, following the end of the Austrian company's UK marketing operation. It snapped up 84 Steyrs last month.

Clarke Commercials, which is promising lower prices than before the Steyr pull-out, says sales are going so well it is having to open on Sundays.

"Of the 110 vehicles, we have sold 21 so far", says sal director John Hemmingham, "and about a third have gone international hauliers operatin. in the UK."

Hemmingham anticipates a further advantage in January when other manufacturers no. many increase prices.

Full parts and servicing is provided by MAN, which was part of a merger deal with Steyr's parent company, SDP in October.
