Palletless Mechanical Handling

ANEW method of palletless fork

truck, handling, known as the Accopak system, was recently demonstrated by LTD. (Stacatruc), Ltd., 95-99 Ladbroke Grove, London, W.11, in conjunction with R. H. Corbett and Co.. Ltd.

Slings made from kraft paper, suspended between two paper tubes, are used in place of normal pallets. Each sling supports a load which would normally be carried on a pallet and is lifted, transported and stacked by means of circular tines inserted in the tubes.

The tines, which. are 2 in. in diameter and 4 ft. 4 in. long, are made from manganese-molybdenum alloy steel having a tensile strength of 55-65 tons p.s.i. They arc fitted to the Hydrum toad-clamp in place of the normal clamping arms.

The cost of the slings is negligible compared with pallets and the increase in storage capacity is about 25 per Cent.

New Torque Wrench Range A LTHOUGH the torque wrench ranks 1as one of the most important tools which a mechanic can possess, it is seldom that one is to be found in the kit of the average fitter. The M.H.H. Engineering Co., Ltd., Bramlcy, Guildford, Surrey, who specialize in the manufacture of torque wrenches, have recently introduced a new range known as Model A. The A 120 has its dial calibrated from 5-120 lb.-in., the A 20 from 1-20 lb.-in. and the A 240 from 10-240 lb.-in.

The square drive of the A 120 is + in. and that of the other two models in. All models weigh 1.1 lb. each and have an overall length of 9 in. The spindle is ratchet driven and nuts can be quickly run down when the arc of movement is restricted to 40°. All the A models cost £7 10s. each.

Lacquer for Metal Coats ACLEAR cellulose lacquer for the protection of polished metal surfaces has been introduced by the Pressurized Dispenser Division of Amber Oils, Ltd., I la Albemarle Street, London, W.I.

Known as Blink, the lacquer is sold in 6-oz. aerosol dispensers at 8s. 6d. each and may easily be applied by spray from the container. It is stated to be suitable for chromium-plated bumpers and other similar parts, although surrounding paintwork should be masked before application,

New Finishing Treatment A NEW finishing treatment for metal, wood, hardboard and other materials has been introduced by Paripan, Ltd., I Sherwood Street, Piccadilly Circus, London, W.I. Known as the Pateena process, its use involves no special skill and it can be undertaken in most spraying shops.

A neutral coat is first applied to the surface, followed by a colour overspray which may be either high gloss, eggshell mat or polychromatic. The finish is stated to be highly resistant to heat, humidity, moisture, insects and fungi.

Extensible Driving Mirror A DRIVING mirror having two exiln' sible arms and a reflector which can he tilted or swung round its support, is being marketed by Driveright. Ltd.. 48 Roydene Road. London. S.E.18

The glass is 14 in. deep, with a maximum width_ of 5 in. Its generous area gives an excellent field of vision to the rear.

The arms cart be extended from a minimum of 7 in. to a maximum of 12 in., which should meet the needs of most types of body. This practical accessory is robustly built and in de luxe forms costs.£4 15s. per pair. The standard all-purpose model costs £3 3s.

New Announcer System STATED to be suitable for installation in vehicles, bus stations, or depo is , the Repetina automatic announcer system has been introduced by Southern Instruments, Ltd., Frimley Road, Camberley, Surrey. A spoken message may be recorded and then repeated, in several languages if desired, over any number of loudspeakers.
